The Birthmark

The Birthmark eBook Nathaniel Hawthorne

Generally, I do not like short stories, often times the author has a great idea or concept and ends the effort too early; however, The Birthmark is fitted well, and makes the reader step back and remember what is important verse what we spend time chasing.
The down side is that this is an old story and reads a little awkward, otherwise worth the time.

The Birthmark eBook Nathaniel Hawthorne Reviews

a short read with good writings.
I had to read this book to help my son with the paper he had to write for school. He has a disability and needs guidance with literature. I was so happy to read it because it told a great story with interesting themes, and it wasn't overly wordy or difficult to read. The symbolism was fascinating and really made me think. I loved it.
Weird and dark.
I'm not sure why I'm doing 5 stars because I did not review this book; someone hacked my and looked at other books
Excellent
This sad tale needs to be read by everyone! A person’s identity is tied to their being. What is perceived as a weakness may well be a strength. True love is not “fixing” a person but celebrating who they are and helping them see their Divine value.
I first read this in high school. At the time I saw my life as a perpetual failure. This story impressed upon me the idea that perfection is a categorization unattainable in life and it is acceptance that allows the spirit to flourish. Strive for perfection, but accept the fact it's unattainable.

In The Birthmark, Hawthorne superbly illustrates the hubris of man in his aspirations to control nature, often with unforeseen consequences. Hawthorne also touches on how the "feminine" aspects of human nature tend to be more in balance with the existential nature of life, but invariably overshadowed by "masculine" hubris.

This is one of the best written and poignant short stories.
